Instant Pot Warm Cinnamon Apples

I have a secret love affair with Cracker Barrel’s warm cinnamon apples. Served as a side dish, these delicious, warm, tender apple slices coated with a yummy cinnamon-y sauce are really more of a dessert than a side, but who can resist? Ready in only 20 minutes, these delicious apples are super easy to make, with dozens of uses!

  • Use them as a delicious side for a country-style dinner.
  • Serve over pork for a perfect protein finish.
  • Serve them over pound cake or ice cream for a yummy homemade dessert.
  • Serve them for breakfast with yogurt, oatmeal or granola.
  • Use as a topping for pancakes, waffles or french toast.
  • Use as a filling for pies or crisps.

Pro Tip: Different apples of different thicknesses need different cooking times. If you choose a different apple variety or slice into more or fewer slices, you may need to experiment with times to get just exactly the degree of tenderness. And depending on the outcome, you may want to add a slurry of 1 tbsp cold water and 1 tbsp cornstarch to thicken at the end.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored and cut into 10-12 slices
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice.
  2. Pour 1/3 cup water into the Instant Pot, then put in the apples.
  3. Sprinkle brown sugar, maple syrup and cinnamon over the apples and stir to combine.
  4. Secure the lid, making sure the vent is closed.
  5. Using the display panel select the MANUAL function*. Use the +/- keys and program the Instant Pot for 5 minutes.
  6. When the time is up, quick-release the pressure.
  7. Mix gently and serve alone, or over ice cream or pound cake.

*The MANUAL and PRESSURE COOK buttons are interchangeable.
