Help! I Submerged My Instant Pot Lid. What Do I Do Now?

Today our culinary staff takes on another common Instant Pot question:

Q. Help! I accidentally submerged my Instant Pot lid in water and now the lid will not lock and the pin will not work. The pin is stuck down. Any suggestions?

A. First of all, don’t panic! Your Instant Pot pressure cooker lid is designed to get wet. In fact, it’s actually dishwasher safe! Here are the detailed steps on how to wash your lid parts and fix a stubborn pin.

1. Lay the lid handle side down on your counter and gently pry off the small silicone cap. You should hear the pin fall out onto the counter. While you’re at it, gently pull out the large silicone seal at the edge of the lid and gently pry off the perforated metal shield.

2.On the top side of the lid, pull off the heavy black steam release valve.

3. Wash all the parts and the lid in warm, soapy water (or in the dishwasher).

4. To reassemble, insert the pin from the top of the lid and snap the small silicone cap back on from the inside of the lid. Snap the perforated metal shield back in place.

5. Next, slip the ring back onto the wire rail and make sure it is evenly seated all the way around. Finally, seat the heavy black steam release valve on the top of the lid–and yes, it’s supposed to be wobbly!
