The King’s Hawaiian Dinner Rolls Recipe That’s So Irresistible

Do you love King’s Hawaiian Bread? Then treat yourself to the irresistible taste of this homemade recipe because once you try it you’ll never go back to the store-bought brand again!

Before gaining widespread popularity in the U.S. it was a special treat during summers when I traveled to Hawaii as a kid. The sweet flavor and fluffy texture of this bread sensation was very addictive, which many would agree to today. And now you can make this right at home!

This bread recipe bakes up fluffy, moist and very delicious with the familiar sweet and slight tang of pineapple juice and sugar. It’s the ‘sliders choice of bread’ by many chefs due to its excellent contrast to savory meats. And it’s great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just by itself.

King’s Hawaiian was founded in the 1950’s by Robert Taira, who created the mouthwatering bread recipe in Hilo, Hawaii. When the famous bread came to the mainland U.S. in 1977, production and demand surged. Today, the family-run business continues their grandfather’s legacy by using the same recipe and quality ingredients that he used. It is a tried and true recipe that became one of America’s top-selling brand in the fresh rolls/buns/croissant category.

It’s so irresistible. Ready to make some?

HOW TO MAKE KING’S HAWAIIAN SWEET DINNER ROLLS

Cook time: 30 minutes
Yields: 3 loaves or 24 large rolls

Ingredients:

  • 6 Cups all-purpose flour, plus
  • 1⁄2 Cup flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 Cups pineapple juice
  • 3⁄4 Cup sugar
  • 1⁄2 Tsp ground ginger
  • 1 Tsp vanilla
  • 2 (1/4 ounce) envelopes yeast
  • 1⁄2 Cup butter (one stick) or 1⁄2 Cup margarine, melted (one stick)

Directions:

  1. Beat the eggs. Add the pineapple juice, sugar, ginger, vanilla, and butter.
  2. Place 3 cups of flour in a large bowl. Stir in the egg mixture until well-combined. Sprinkle in the yeast, one packet at a time, and mix.
  3. Add the remaining 3 cups of flour and mix in. Blending with a spoon will be hard, so you may have to use your hands. Make sure it is thoroughly combined.
  4. Remove from the bowl and knead in 1/2 cup flour. The dough should be slightly tacky, but not wet. Knead for 5 minutes until it forms a smooth ball. Place dough in a greased bowl and set aside to rise until doubled in size (about 1 1/2 hours).
  5. Punch dough down and either divide into three equal parts (for bread loaves) or 24 balls (for dinner rolls). Place in greased loaf pans or shape into rolls.
  6. Cover and place in a warm place to rise until doubled in size. The secret to light and airy rolls is making sure they’ve risen enough.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or golden brown.
  8. Brush tops with melted butter. Serve warm.
