Instant Pot Bacon Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

The term “sloppy joes” conjures fond memories of childhood lunches. That’s one of the reasons I was so happy to find out that my Instant Pot (get yours here: was a perfect vessel for making this kid-friendly, nostalgia-laced favorite.

But hold the phone…because we’ve just stepped it up with two of our favorite flavors, BACON and CHEDDAR! That’s right, sloppy joes get an upgrade in this recipe with the addition of two great tastes that make everything taste better.

Tender, savory beef enveloped by a delicious tomato gravy with melted cheese and studded with delicious bacon. And even better? It goes start-to-table in only 30 minutes!

So what is a sloppy joe, anyway? A sloppy joe is a sandwich made of ground beef, onions, tomato sauce or ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and other seasonings, served on a hamburger bun. Most attribute the original Sloppy Joe to a 1930’s cafe in Sioux City, Iowa, where a cook named Joe added tomato sauce to his “loose meat” sandwiches and the “sloppy joe” was born. Whatever the origin, we say yum!
